The Domain Name Checker helps you quickly find out if your desired domain name is available for registration. Whether you’re starting a new business, launching a product, or rebranding, finding the right domain is a crucial first step in establishing your online presence.

How to Use the Domain Checker
Visit leadmarketingstrategies.com/tools/domain-checker/ or select “Domain Checker” from the Free Tools page.
Type the domain name you want to check. You can enter it with or without the extension (e.g., “mybusiness” or “mybusiness.com”).
Press the check button to search for the domain. The tool will query domain registries to determine availability.
You’ll see whether the domain is available or taken, along with the status of alternative extensions.
Understanding Your Results
Domain Available

If your domain is available, you’ll see a success message with options to register it. We recommend registering quickly, as domain names can be claimed by others at any time.
Popular domain names get registered quickly. If you find a good one available, consider registering it right away to secure it for your business.
Domain Taken

If the domain is taken, don’t worry. The tool will show you:
- Alternative extensions – The same name with different TLDs (.net, .org, .co, etc.)
- Similar variations – Slight modifications that might work
- WHOIS information – When the domain expires (it might become available)
Domain Extensions Explained
The extension (also called TLD – Top Level Domain) is the part after the dot. Here’s what the most common ones mean:
Generic Extensions
- .com – Commercial, the most popular and trusted (recommended for businesses)
- .net – Originally for networks, now general purpose
- .org – Organizations, often used by nonprofits
- .co – Company/commercial, popular alternative to .com
- .io – Popular with tech startups
- .info – Information sites
- .biz – Business
Industry-Specific Extensions
- .shop / .store – E-commerce businesses
- .tech – Technology companies
- .agency – Marketing and creative agencies
- .photography – Photographers
- .restaurant – Restaurants and food service
- .law / .legal – Law firms
Location-Based Extensions
- .us – United States
- .uk / .co.uk – United Kingdom
- .ca – Canada
- .nyc – New York City
- .vegas – Las Vegas
For most businesses, .com is still the best choice. It’s the most recognized and trusted. If .com isn’t available, .co or a relevant industry extension are good alternatives.
What to Do If Your Domain Is Taken
Option 1: Try a Different Extension
If mybusiness.com is taken, check mybusiness.co, mybusiness.net, or an industry-specific extension.
Option 2: Modify the Name
- Add a location: mybusinessnyc.com
- Add a word: getmybusiness.com, mybusinesshq.com
- Use an abbreviation: mybiz.com
- Add your industry: mybusinessdesign.com
Option 3: Try to Purchase It
Some taken domains are for sale. You can:
- Check if there’s a “for sale” page on the domain
- Use a domain broker service
- Wait for it to expire (check WHOIS for expiration date)
Don’t use hyphens (hard to remember), don’t use numbers unless they’re part of your brand, and don’t choose a name too similar to an existing trademark.
