Keeping your password secure and up to date is essential for protecting your account. Change your password regularly and whenever you suspect it may have been compromised.
How to Change Your Password
Click your profile in the top right and select “Settings” or “Account”.
Look for “Security”, “Password”, or “Change Password” in the settings menu.
Type your current password to verify your identity.
Type your new password. Make sure it meets the requirements below.
Type the new password again to confirm you entered it correctly.
Click “Change Password” or “Update” to save your new password.
Password Requirements
Your new password must:
- Be at least 8 characters long
- Include at least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- Include at least one lowercase letter (a-z)
- Include at least one number (0-9)
- Be different from your current password
We recommend also including:
- Special characters (!@#$%^&*)
- 12 or more characters for extra security
Create a memorable but secure password using these methods:
- Passphrase: Use a sentence like “MyDog&CatLove2024!”
- Random words: Combine unrelated words: “PurpleTaco55Beach”
- Password manager: Let a manager generate and store secure passwords
What to Avoid
Don’t use passwords that are:
- Common words (password, letmein, admin)
- Personal information (name, birthday, phone number)
- Simple patterns (123456, qwerty, abcdef)
- The same as passwords you use elsewhere
- Previously used on this account
After Changing Your Password
Once you change your password:
- You’ll receive a confirmation email
- Other sessions may be logged out (depending on settings)
- Use the new password to log in going forward
- Update any saved passwords in your browser or password manager
Make sure to remember or securely store your new password. If you forget it, you’ll need to use the “Forgot Password” feature to reset it.
When to Change Your Password
We recommend changing your password:
- Regularly: Every 3-6 months
- If compromised: Immediately if you suspect unauthorized access
- After sharing: If you ever shared your password temporarily
- Data breach: If a service you use announces a breach
- Suspicious activity: If you notice unfamiliar logins or changes
